Romanée Conti is one of the most prestigious wine estates in the world , it covers 25.5 hectares in the territory of Vosne-Romanée, a French municipality of about 400 inhabitants located in the department of Côte-d'Or, region of Burgundy-Franche-Comté . The story of Romanée Conti is incredible outlined by very interesting facets. In 1232, the Abbey of San Vivant in Vosne purchased 1.8 hectares of vineyard sold in 1631 to the de Croonembourg family, who renamed it Romanée because in antiquity it belonged to the Prefect of Rome. The Croonembourgs made several improvements to the estate and decided to buy adjacent vineyards of La Tâche. In 1760 the Croonembourg family decided to sell the lands that were bought by Louis François I de Bourbon-Conti (from that moment the vineyard became known as Romanée-Conti ). Following the French Revolution, the prince’s land was seized and auctioned off. In 1819 Nicolas Defer de la Nouerre bought the vineyard and sold it to Julien Ouvrard. In 1869 Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet bought it together with other companies such as Echézeaux, Grands Echézeaux and Richebourg. In 1891 the 9.43 hectares of Romanée Saint-Vivant were bought by Nicolas-Joseph Marey and sold in part to the Latour family, renting the remaining 5.28 hectares of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in 1966 and finally selling them in 1988.

Today the vineyards are grouped around the village of Vosne-Romanée characterized by a soil rich in iron and limestone on a base of rock and marl. The average age of the vines is very high, about 44 years, and the vineyards are cultivated with organic methods.
